Resumption of Public Worship5 June 2020
At the direction of the Bishop Cantú, the Diocese of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara, limited public worship outdoors may resume starting 15 June 2020. However, masses and other liturgical rites must follow very strictly the protocol established for the health and safety of all persons. This is why at this time masses will be celebrated with a maximum of 25 persons present and they must be celebrated outdoors. Of course, face coverings will be required and social distancing will be observed at all times. As Bishop Cantú likes to say, the precautions that we take are not just an act of charity; they are also a moral imperative. As Christians, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to protect the health and safety of others.
To attend one of the outdoor masses, you will have to make a reservation and reservations will, at least for a while, be available only to those who are receiving our parish e-mails on Flocknote. To receive the e-mails, text SJCup to 84576 or go to stjosephofcupertino2.flocknote.com. Read your e-mails from Flocknote to find out more about the schedule of upcoming masses and the instructions we ask you to follow. Note that live stream/recorded masses will continue for those who unable to attend the public masses.
Fr. Greg Kimm
Reservations for MassBeginning Monday, June 15, mass will be offered daily at 11 A.M. outside in the area in front of the church. Participants will be limited to 25, including the priest, and reservations will be required. You will find information about reservations later in this message.
Before making a reservation, please read the following information and make sure that you are able to meet the requirements. The health and safety of all people has to be our top priority. As Bishop Cantú likes to say, the precautions that we take during this pandemic are not just an act of charity; they are also a moral imperative. As Christians, we have a responsibility to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
- You will be required to wear a face covering at all times except when receiving holy communion
- You will be required to maintain a distance of at least six feet from others
- Please bring your own hand sanitizer
- Please bring your own chair; seating will not be provided
- Do not come if you are feeling ill
- Those who are elderly or who have health problems are discouraged from attending
- Children may attend only if they have close adult supervision and are able to follow the rules
- Please use the rest room at home before coming to mass
- Sunday mass will continue to be live streamed on the Internet; the dispensation from the obligation to attend mass on Sundays will be in effect until further notice
At this time, reservations will be available only to those receiving parish e-mails through Flocknote. Reservations for a particular mass will close automatically when the allowed number of attendees has been reached. For the first week of public masses, we ask that you do not make a reservation for more than one mass in order to give a maximum number of people the opportunity to worship.
While we are happy and excited to welcome you back, please be aware that we must be very strict with the number of attendees and other requirements. If you are not able to comply for any reason, please do not make a reservation. Those who do not comply will be asked to leave and return at another time. Our parish does not want to be blamed for an outbreak of disease or for a violation of the directives given to us by the county or our bishop. In addition, if there is any trouble, the whole diocese could lose the opportunity to worship publicly or worship in church with a larger congregation. We are all waiting for the time when we will be able to enter our church again.
Once again, I remind you of the items you will need to bring if you wish to join in the celebration of one of the masses that will take place in front of church: 1) face covering, 2) hand sanitizer, and 3) chair.
PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY AND LINE UP. WALK IN ON THE DRIVEWAY SIDE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER, CLOSEST TO COMERICA BANK (LOOK FOR THE SIGN).
We look forward to seeing you!!
