Parish Groups

SJC Mom's Group

Being a Mom changes your life, and can be a real opportunity for spiritual growth. Come to our monthly meetings and meet other Moms who make an effort to put God first in their lives, and remember the holiness found in daily tasks and raising children. Our group studies the Sunday Scripture, and explores a special Mom's Focus Issue at each meeting. We also offer camaraderie, and talk consistently about how our actions can grow spirituality in our families. We also have fun, and promote friendships amongst our children by holding events and activities that can include potluck suppers, movie nights, and holiday parties with the whole family. Please join us the second Wednesday of each month from 10 ~ 11 AM at Three Oaks Park, weather permitting, or at an alternate location. For more information, see the calendar listings and contact Carol Ruiz at 408/777-2966. [top]

The Friends of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Friends of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a group of parishioners who help promote the devotion to our Blessed Mother as she appeared on this continent to lead the people to her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. By celebrating her feast with a colorful and lively concelebrated Mass sung by Mariachis, with the children of St. Joseph of Cupertino reenacting the apparition in 1531 and dancing an Aztec offering and prayer, we enable her mission to continue. At the same time, it brings the community closer together to begin the holiday season with a fiesta after the Mass.

The Friends of Our Lady of Guadalupe meets once a month from September to June to pray together and study the mysteries of Guadalupe. All are invited to join and help plan the festivities. For more information, contact Mariqueta Churchill at 408/736-1370. [top]

SJC Filipino-American Group

Our Parish Fil-Am Group strives to share unique Filipino Catholic traditions with the larger community for the purpose of deepening our Christian faith, and encouraging passionate engagement with our parish and diocese. This focus is rooted in the Diocesan Council of Filipino Catholics (DCFC), which is the diocese-wide umbrella organization for all parish Fil-Am groups.

In 2007, "Simbang Gabi" or Night Mass, a novena celebrated during Advent to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas, was successfully launched. Mass was said on three consecutive evenings, followed by a reception. Simbang Gabi was well-attended by Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike - a testimony to a true community of Jesus. In addition to espousing this tradition, the Fil-Am group continues to explore other joyful, enthusiastic, contagious ways of nurturing our catholic faith individually and as a community.
